The Keelung River runs past the door
One old house, six rooms, each facing a different light. One looks straight at the water, one opens at the roof, one opens nowhere at all and keeps a bath deep enough to make up for it.
Five minutes on foot from Ruifang Station, across one bridge, and the town falls quiet behind you. The Keelung River is on your left, the mountains on your right. This is not the packed old street of Jiufen — it is the kind of quiet where people still walk their dogs along the embankment and sit on the levee at dusk. Turn the corner out of the lane and the bustle of the Ruifang food court is there again.
The house is a converted old building, and the six rooms are genuinely different — not the kind of place where six identical rooms differ only by floor. Some travellers come for the bath that faces the river, some for the skylight in the roof, some simply for water deep enough to cover their shoulders.

Four double rooms. What separates them is not floor area but what is outside the window.
The bath faces the river
Mountains and water by day; after dark a bridge lights up outside the window.
The wide window faces the river head-on, and the bath sits right in front of it. With the water full, your eye clears the window frame and lands on the far bank — mountains by day, grass along the embankment, someone cycling past now and then. After dark the lights of Jieshou Bridge come on and the whole window turns into a picture.
One traveller suggested a way to use it: turn every light in the room off and keep only what comes through the window. The neon on the bridge and the lights of the town fall straight into the room.
Wet and dry areas are separated, and the washstand is a single slab of wood. The room itself is roomy too — not the kind where the tub leaves you nowhere to stand.

Third floor. There is a bath in the room, and the glass door opens onto a private terrace — rattan chairs, a few plants, a string of bulbs overhead. Sit out there in the breeze during the day; switch the lights on at night and the whole terrace turns warm yellow.
What travellers most often do: bring a bottle up and sit on the terrace instead of going inside. On a clear night you can see stars from here; at daybreak the mountains across the river light up first.
Travellers who book the whole house tend to treat this as the shared living room. The third-floor terrace and the tatami area in 101 downstairs are the two places in this building where everyone can gather.

The light comes from overhead
One traveller called it the atrium suite.
There is a skylight in the roof, with a blind. Afternoon light comes in at an angle and lands at the foot of the bed; pull the blind across and the morning sun stays out — which matters, because a traveller on the third floor noted the sun is already strong by five.
A rainy night is this room's hidden version. Rain settles lightly on the skylight, and with the blind drawn it does not disturb your sleep at all. On a clear night it works the other way round — lie back and the sky is right there.
The bathroom is the other thing travellers mention again and again — large, wet and dry separated, with heating for winter.

Water deep enough to cover your shoulders
This one has no outside window; what it has instead is the deepest bath in the house.
Fill it and everything below your shoulders is under water. It is deep enough that people stay in a long time — a Japanese traveller wrote: “There was no window, but the bath was very deep; I filled it right up and soaked at length.”
Having no outside window turns out to feel different from how it sounds. The room barely collects dust, the dehumidifier and air conditioning run year-round, and the air stays dry — one traveller simply wrote that the windowless room was “neither stuffy nor musty”. The quiet is part of it too: outside noise does not get in.
The room is on the ground floor, so there are no stairs. The television is a smart TV with Netflix. The food court is close enough for a late-night run — one traveller noted the food was still hot by the time they got back.

The largest room in the house, on the river
The windows are wide enough that you need no lamp even on a grey day.
Besides the two beds there is a raised tatami area — somewhere to sit, to lie down, to spread your luggage out. One group who booked the whole house used it as the living room for the building and sat there talking.
The sofa is the single thing travellers mention most about this room: deep enough to lie down in, and plenty of people never leave it all evening. Outside the window are the green hills and the Keelung River, with the riverside path right there.
The room is on the ground floor, so there are no stairs — good for older travellers, for children, or for four people who would rather not have to work around each other.

Rattan, wood, and a woven bamboo lamp
One traveller said it feels like a holiday abroad.
A four-person room on the second floor, long in shape, with two beds side by side. A rattan lounge chair sits in the corner with a few floor cushions beside it — the best corner in the building for doing nothing at all.
The palette runs warmer than the other rooms — earth tones, wood, rattan, and a woven bamboo lampshade that throws patterned light onto the wall. Separate shower room, bathroom apart.
This room has no outside window either, which makes it especially quiet. The television swivels, so all four people can see it from wherever they have settled.

Take the whole house
Four double rooms and two quad rooms.
All six rooms can be booked at once. There is no shared lounge, but two places naturally become where everyone gathers: the raised tatami area in 101 downstairs, and the terrace off 301 on the third floor. Cards and conversation on the ground floor by day; upstairs at night with the terrace lights on.
Because every room is different, you can match people to rooms: whoever wants a bath takes 201 or 102, light sleepers take the upper floors, anyone travelling with older family takes the ground floor.

The rooms differ; these do not.
Bathroom and shower kept apart
In all six rooms the toilet, the washstand and the shower or bath are separated. You do not step out of a shower into a wet floor — the single thing travellers mention most often.
Cha Tzu Tang amenities
Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all Cha Tzu Tang, a Taiwanese brand. Travellers have called it “hotel grade” and noted that it is “not cheap shampoo — it really is pleasant to wash with”.
Beds
Five of the six rooms have extra-wide double beds; only 302 has a standard double. The mattresses are neither hard nor soft, and “slept well” is among the phrases that recur most in reviews.
Smart television
Netflix and YouTube work straight away, and in some rooms the screen swivels so it faces you whether you are in bed or on the sofa.
Dehumidifier and air conditioning
The hills around Keelung are damp, so every room has a dehumidifier as well as heating and cooling. Travellers have described the dehumidifier as “powerful but very quiet” and the bathroom as “warm and dry”.

Strong enough that hair dries quickly — the small detail female travellers mention most.
Lights that fade up, an adjustable extractor
The lights come up gradually rather than glaring the moment you hit the switch, and the bathroom extractor has adjustable speed. Both were deliberate choices when the old house was converted.

There is a shared fridge in the common area on the second floor, for anything you have brought that needs to stay cold.

Check-in is entirely self-service — written up as an advantage in reviews far more often than as a drawback.
A local guide arrives before you do
Where to park, what to eat nearby, how to get around, and the practical details you would otherwise only learn on arrival — we put it together and send it before you check in. The item mentioned most is a gua bao shop the owner recommends; one group of travellers ate there two days running. There is a trail worth walking early, too.
We are reachable on LINE
There is no front desk, but messages are answered almost immediately. One traveller called it “whatever you ask for, you get”; another heard a temple bell late at night, asked about it, and had an answer straight away.
The ease of letting yourself in
No waiting at the door for a handover, no small talk. When your time comes you let yourself in — which makes a late arrival, or a trip decided on after work, no trouble at all.

Once you step outside
Ruifang is more than a stop on the way to Jiufen.
To Jiufen There is a bus stop fifty metres from the door; the 788, 827, 856, 965 and 1062 all run straight to the old street. No car, no shuttle to wait for.
Further afield Ruifang Station is where the Pingxi and Shen'ao branch lines begin; the Maritime Museum, Jiufen, Jinguashi and the Pingxi sky lanterns all sit along the same route. One traveller headed for the north coast after checking out and had coffee by the sea before going home.
Eating Round the corner is the Ruifang food court, under ten minutes on foot and open late enough for supper. There is a convenience store and a McDonald's nearby, and breakfast places within five minutes. We send a list before you arrive — the one mentioned most is a gua bao shop; one group of travellers ate there two days running.
Walking After dinner, walk a stretch of the embankment. It is quiet at night, and that walk is one of the reasons travellers come back. It works early in the morning too — one traveller called the trail nearby simply “great”.

Arriving and checking in
Check-in from 15:00, check-out by 10:00, entirely self-service. The night before you arrive you will receive the door code and instructions for finding your room key — it is hidden in a small wooden box with a number puzzle on it, which travellers have compared to opening a mystery box and which children particularly enjoy. The front door uses a code, so there is no key to forget. Anything you need, we are on LINE.
The building is a converted old house: there is no lift and no car park of our own. The lane is pedestrian-only, so cars cannot reach the door; there are paid car parks nearby within walking distance. If your plans allow it, we suggest coming by train — the station is five minutes on foot, and you do not need a car for Jiufen either.

Three rooms have baths: 102, 201 and 301. The one in 102 is a deep soaking tub, the one in 201 faces the Keelung River, and the one in 301 sits beside the terrace door. Rooms 101, 202 and 302 have separate shower rooms.
